InfoSpy is a general purpose Windows environment viewer allowing you view
Heap, Tasks, Windows, Classes, Modules, File Handles, DOS and Memory
Information. You can trace messages, stack and set up automatic timers
to provide real-time tracing on virtually every aspect of Windows.
The new System Sentry library lets you monitor Windows program usage, control
what Windows programs can be executed, disallow users from running programs,
disable the CTRL-ALT-DEL keys under Windows, and disable entire directories.
InfoSpy has been updated to run under Windows 95. Still a 16 app but ALL
functions work and provide accurate information for the Win95 environment!!
InfoSpy has full task scheduling capability allowing you to schedule the
execution of programs, Windows shutdown, Windows Restart, System Warmboot
& Coldboot and the termination of any task.
The Screen Capture Utility allows you to capture the entire desktop, a
specific window or cut a portion of the screen to the clipboard. You can
save the captured image as a bitmap too.
The DLL search utility will examine any local or network drive for all
programs that reference DLLs in order to provide a list of unreferenced
DLLs. In addition, all duplicate DLLs are displayed with an option to
delete the duplicates.
The ICON search will examine any file, directory or drive for files
containing ICONS and will list them (and draw them) in a convenient list.
You can copy any of the listed ICONS to the ClipBoard!
Ver 1.xx was highly praised by shareware magazines and software reviews
and was published in several books including "Byte Magazine's Programmer
Cookbook for Windows" and WUGNET's "Windows Configuration Secrets" as
a powerful, easy tool to inspect your Windows environment.
InfoSpy now includes STRESS functions that let you use InfoSpy to really
put the pressure on Windows and other applications. You can grab Global
Heap, GDI Heap, User Heap, File Handles, Disk Space and Timers. There is
also a function that continually does disk I/O to help simulate a busy
disk.
Real time tracing of stack, windows messages and serial comm ports has
been added as well as IntelliLib (tm) technology that lets you customize
InfoSpy by specifying with DLLs to load to add\remove functionality.

** What is your incentive to register? There is now an annoying splash
screen that appears when starting the unregistered version as well as
the word <unregistered> generously placed througout the program. The
code size of the registered version is 50k smaller too! We had
to add these features since we were getting lots of support calls from
people who had not registered. In other words, you get support when you
register! **
Version History
===============
Ver 2.53

get details on.
2. Updated Title of Heap Detail window to show correct Heap entry block id.
3. Made "System Parameter Block" dump an MDI child so that it can be printed,
saved, clipboarded... It was also moved to the General Windows Library
instead of mainline code.
4. Corrected bug with "GDI Local Walk" and "User Local Walk" that was
incorrectly updating their title bars when refreshed causing a GPF!
5. Updated SYSTEM SENTRY applet so that it now includes an advanced options
setup window with the following new features: 1. Allows you to disable the
RUN button. 2. Will force SENTRY to minimize automatically once a user has
logged on. 3. Gives you the ability to customize the window title.
6. Correct spelling of "Dependencies" (thanks Ron Hinds).
7. Corrected CPU detection routine used in SYSTEM INFORMATION option. Now
detects and shows Pentiums.
8. Updated CMOS dump to not show Date and Time values in Hex as they are
stored in Decimal in CMOS (thanks Ron Hinds).
9. Removed limit on number of Windows that can be enumerated in the ACTIVE
WINDOWS list. It will now show as many as the ListBox will allow.
10. Modified security routin so that when you try to maximize InfoSpy by
clicking on the Program manager group icon or running it from command
line it will ask for any security passwords that are enabled.
11. When InfoSpy is run from Program Manager or Explorer as a MINIMIZED
application, all Security will now be enabled.
12. Updated HELP with section on System Sentry standalone program.
13. Removed the flag that enabled the WIN95 options when Windows NT was the
OS, there were too many errors associated with NT.
14. Discovered that Keyboard monitoring routine does not work with 32bit
programs on Windows 95, therefore added a query box stating problem
prior to starting keyboard monitoring.
Ver 2.52
- WINDOWS 95 SUPPORT:
1. New DLL containing 32 bit Windows calls: INFWIN95.DLL. This Dll is loaded
only when InfoSpy recognizes Windows 95 as the Operating System.
2. New WIN95 selection on the main menu. This menu option only appears when
Windows 95 is the operating system.
3. Process List. Lists all processes under Windows 95. Double clicking on a
process will give process details.
4. Thread List. Lists all threads under Windows 95. Double clicking on a
thread will give thread details.
5. Modules. You select a process from the list and will see all 32 bit
modules loaded under that process. Double clicking on a module will give
module details.
6. Heap List. You select a process from the list and will see any heaps
(identifier only) used by that process.
7. Heap Entries. If you Double Click on the Heap List line you will get a
window showing all Heap Entries for that Heap.
8. Win32 System Info. Lists specific system info only available from the
WIN32 Kernel.
9. Win32 Memory Status. Lists Memory size and availability as provided by
the WIN32 Kernel.
10. Updated InfoSpy OPENFILE dialog to show the Long Filename as well as the
12 byte filename when Windows 95 is running.

Memory Load API result to show Memory availability. This gives a fairly
accurate representation of memory usage under Windows 95.
12. The mini-File Manager has been updated so that the Disk Format and Disk
Clone functions now operate (quickly) under Windows 95.
13. Added new Terminate Process option added to the Action menu when Windows

- Corrected Scheduler bug that only ran the first scheduled job when InfoSpy
was minimized.
- Correct Alarm Setup Browse button so that it actually works.
- Unfortunately we had to disable File Usage monitoring under WIN95 until we
develop a working substitute for what we had for Win 3.1.
- Equally unfortunately the API Message Trace crashes when you attempt to trace
messages on certain processes. We added a YESNO box warning the user about
errors but giving them the choice to continue or not.
- Removed the Terminate Task menu option from the Action menu when Windows 95
is running as it has no effect.
- Added Com Port availability to the SYSTEM INFORMATION menu option under
SYSTEM. Shows which Com Ports Windows has access to.
- Created an assembler Drive validation routine which all drive selection
listboxes and comboboxes now use. Only lists valid drives on your system
instead of always 'C'-'Z'.
- Updated the UNINSTALL portion of the SETUP program to handle removing the
INFBOOT.386 device driver from the SYSTEM.INI file.
- Updated INFFSDLL text search DLL so that it does not require BWCC.DLL
(borland custom control) on your system.

Definition Of Shareware
=======================
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before
buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you
are expected to register. Individual programs differ on details --
some request registration while others require it, some specify a
maximum trial period. With registration, you get anything from the
simple right to continue using the software to an updated program with
printed manual.
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and
the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are of
comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs and bad
ones!) The main difference is in the method of distribution. The
author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute the
software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For
example, some authors require written permission before a commercial
disk vendor may copy their Shareware.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should
find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's
commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs
easier, because you can try before you buy. And because the overhead
is low, prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back
guarantee - if you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.
